Chapter 343: The Time Tower’s Challenge, Minutes-Monster Boss [1]
Chapter 343: The Time Tower’s Challenge, Minutes-Monster Boss [1]
Ding:
[You have entered the "Time Tower"]
[The flow of time passes differently here, meaning that a thousand years here may only amount to a single day in the outside world.]
Seeing that notification appear before his eyes, a bead of sweat appeared on Leon’s forehead.
To him, one of the two worst possible outcomes would be that he was stuck here for so long that he went completely insane from the isolation and endless time.
Though with his [Celestial] title and the unshakeable determination that came with it, he really doubted that would happen to him, he would simply be incredibly bored instead of losing his mind.
To Leon, as long as he could complete this challenge and successfully hatch the egg, no matter how much subjective time passed for him inside the tower, it ultimately didn’t matter because the rewards would be worth it.
As for the second worst outcome, it was simply that a LOT of time passed outside in the real world while he was trapped inside the tower.
If years passed while he was stuck in the [Time Tower] trying to complete the challenge, it would be absolutely catastrophic for his plans and his companions.
The influence of the gods would continue to grow unchecked, he would never be able to meet the other celestials, and all his companions wouldn’t know where he was or what had happened to him.
Knowing Celeste and Emilia, they would probably wait for him in the [Imperial Kingdom].
As for the others, their fates were unknown, but death was very likely.
They would be able to see that he wasn’t dead since he didn’t have a "skull" icon next to his name in the [Friend List] interface, but still, the uncertainty would be agonizing for them.
Leon looked around at his surroundings, trying to get his bearings in this strange place.
He was standing in complete darkness, and the only thing visible before him was an enormous analog clock that was ticking continuously, its mechanisms echoing through the void.
But it didn’t have its two hands attached to its face, meaning it was simply standing there incomplete, waiting for someone to complete it.
Ding!
[You have received a new quest from the "Time Overseer"]
[Will you accept it?]
"...Whatever," Leon said dismissively.
This was Leon’s reaction to the prompt, but it immediately selected the second option before he even properly read what the choices were.
[Yes] [Whatever (Yes)]
Only then did he actually see what the options were, "Oh," he said with mild amusement.
Ding!
[You have accepted the quest: "Hands of a Clock"]
[Objective: Clear the two gates and bring the "Minute" and "Hour" hand of the clock before you, only then will the path to the top open.]
Leon looked around the void, then with a narrowed eye, he asked aloud, "Where are the gates—"
RUMBLE!
In an instant, the void around Leon as well as the giant clock began to shake powerfully, as if responding to his very question.
Then from the ground on Leon’s right and left side, two massive gates began to rise upward, with the words [Minute] and [Hour] engraved on them in golden letters.
Leon approached the [Minute] clock first and touched its cold handle to see what would happen.
Ding!
[The "Minute" clock resides inside this gate, do you wish to accept its challenge?]
[A single failure will eject you from the "Time Tower" and you may also be punished by the "Time Overseer" for your failure]
"...Sure," Leon said, pushing open the gate without any hesitation.
He passed through the darkness inside the gate, being transported to another place entirely.
Thump!
After a few seconds of weightless travel, Leon landed on solid ground in a massive chamber that looked like an endless arena.
Ding!
[Defeat the "Minutes-Monster" to obtain the item you seek.]
Leon looked before him, and indeed there was a giant monster that appeared in the middle of the chamber, its massive form blocking out the light.
It had clocks all over its metallic body and even its sword was made entirely of clock hands that moved independently.
"How original," Leon muttered under his breath, unimpressed by the design.
Appraisal!
---
[Minutes-Monster (Boss)]
[Level: 90]
[Talent: Time Affinity (S-Level)]
[Combat Power: 6,000,000]
[Details: The "Minutes" hand of the clock that turned into a monster, it will turn back once defeated.]
---
Seeing that information, Leon readied his sword in his hand, then with a powerful dash, he aimed to close the distance between himself and the boss as quickly as possible.
Seeing that Leon was charging toward it, the monster did the same, the hand sword in its massive "hands" beginning to swing toward him.
But right as the two were about to clash in the middle of the chamber, something unexpected happened.
BOOM!
There was a sudden pulse of energy that came from the boss’ body as it used one of its special skills.
Slow!
Immediately, Leon’s entire body began to slow down dramatically, his agility attribute cut down by around half of its normal value.
It wasn’t as bad as the [Time Overseer]’s slow effect had been, but it was still a massive debuff that Leon could feel restricting his movements.
Leon watched as the boss arrived before him and swung its massive sword while he was still running toward it, unable to lift his own weapon in time to block properly.
But still, being slowed down didn’t mean he couldn’t defend himself at all.
SLASH!
The boss swung its sword and hit Leon’s [Mega Darkness Barrier], which cracked slightly from the impact, but thankfully didn’t break completely under the assault.
In his other hand, Leon’s staff began to glow with intense magical energy as he was about to unleash his spell.
Cataclysmic Fireball!
And so while the boss was busy slashing at Leon’s barrier repeatedly to attempt to break it, his fireball kept growing in size and intensity and reached its peak form high above his head.
"Goodbye," Leon mumbled as he unleashed the devastating spell directly at the boss.
Unlike Leon himself, his spells weren’t slowed down by the boss’s debuff, so all of it happened extremely fast and caught the monster off guard.
BOOM!
The boss received the entire power of the maxed out fireball directly to its chest, its metallic body scorching slightly from the intense heat of the spell.
As a result of the damage, the [Slow] skill was disrupted, allowing Leon to regain his regular speed once again, but the boss still wasn’t dead from that single attack.
And taking this golden opportunity, Leon swung his sword with all his might.
